“If you are passionate about it, go for it. You can worry later. I strongly believe that gut feelings are always right. If you feel that, listen to yourself, don’t doubt it, and go for it – Nicolai Bergmann.”
On Wednesday, October 8, Shizenkan University hosted a Leadership Night, part of the newly established course “Envisioning Your Leadership Journey.”
The session, held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:40 p.m., brought together about 50 participants and featured Mr. Nicolai Bergmann, one of Japan’s most celebrated floral artists. Originally from Denmark, Mr. Bergmann is renowned for his signature flower boxes, a unique concept that has become a cultural icon in Japan, blending elegance, creativity, and craftsmanship.
During the talk, Mr. Bergmann shared the story behind his business and the evolution of his iconic flower boxes. He discussed his creative approach of “thinking outside the box” through collaborations across various industries, from fashion and cosmetics to food and design, emphasizing that his brand is beyond “a flower shop,” but a platform for connection and creativity through flowers.

The session also featured an interactive dialogue with Shizenkan lecturer, Prof. Patrick Newell, who engaged Mr. Bergmann asked a series of questions while he demonstrated his bouquet-making technique. The evening concluded with a lively Q&A session, allowing participants to further explore his leadership philosophy and entrepreneurial journey.
Through events like Leadership Night, Shizenkan aims to invite leaders from diverse fields to share their real-world experiences, encouraging students to reflect on their own paths and to envision the kind of leaders they aspire to become.

| “Leadership Night”
Leadership Night is part of Shizenkan’s formal course, Exploring the Journey of Leadership, and is held once a month in both Japanese and English. Each session features a guest speaker at the forefront of their field, who shares their personal leadership journey. The series provides participants — including both students and external guests — with an opportunity to envision their own future paths and to reflect on their ongoing journey of leadership. For Shizenkan students, these sessions also serve as valuable opportunities to meet potential role models, mentors, and supporters — individuals who embody the spirit of challenge and transformation that Shizenkan seeks to cultivate. |
