As an international professional working in Japan, you may have experienced occasions where functional expertise alone wasn’t enough—where navigating cultural nuances, building trust across different work and communication styles, and driving change in established organizational systems become equally crucial to delivering meaningful impact.

The Shizenkan MBA provides you with the foundation for becoming a catalyst for change in global business. Unlike traditional MBA programs, we integrate rigorous business training, liberal arts education, and self reflection learning—including Zen and self-meditation. This is to deepen your insights into the complexity of human societies and underlying politico-economic system as well as sharpen your values and convictions as guiding principles of your journey, both of which are critical in operating as an authentic leader in a global context.

You work with diverse classmates – at our campus, 27 nationalities are currently represented, and students come from various industries and sectors. Having deep dialogue with such diverse classmates enables you to expand your worldviews, develop the ability to operate across cultures, and deepen your values and convictions as guiding principles of your journey.

In this session, we will share how the Shizenkan program uniquely supports aspiring talent to prepare for further challenges in their journey and to make transformational impact in global business. We’ll also invite our graduates and current students who actively seek growth in global work environments, as they share their experiences and growth through the program.

To thrive globally through technology and product excellence in Japanese companies, it is essential to cultivate both a management perspective and an understanding of Japan’s unique approach to management.

The Shizenkan MBA is not merely about acquiring knowledge and skills. It emphasizes reflective learning that encourages students to deeply question, “Who am I?” and “What kind of leader do I aspire to be?” Through this process, the program aims to develop leaders who embody both humanity and social responsibility.

At Shizenkan, we start with the American business school model of education, which is based on western rationalism, yet we also incorporate Eastern philosophies—Zen and meditation are part of our curriculum. We seek to become a bridge between the East and West, and a model of management leadership that is best adapted for the future.

In this session, we will share the challenges faced by those working in Japanese companies with the aspiration to make their organizations global—such as cultural differences, discomfort with decision-making processes, and career barriers. At the same time, we will introduce how Shizenkan students have built their leadership styles and gained management perspectives through programs centered on reflection and dialogue.
